Environment Minister off to Ethiopia to attend meeting of LDC group

KATHMANDU,  Oct 4: Minister for Population and Environment Mithila Chaudhary has left here for Ethiopia to attend a meeting of environment ministers of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group affected by climate change to take place in Addis Ababa there. 

The meeting will prepare a common agenda of the LDC Group for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UN Convention on Climate Change, scheduled for upcoming November in Bonn, Germany. 

The two-day meeting in Addis Ababa would touch on the issues relating to problems facing the LDCs due to climate change, climate justice and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the Minister before leaving for the northeastern African country. A total of 47 countries including Nepal are the members of LDC Group. They have concerns over increasing global temperature due to greenhouse effect and have been advocating for limiting the global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius since the past few years. RSS
