Author Chuden Kabimo’s Nepali novel ‘Fatsung’ has been translated into English, titled ‘Song of the Soil’, has been released in Nepal, India and Uk simultaneously, recently. Kabimo is a Nepali writer of Indian origin who penned about the Gorkhaland movement for identity in the book. His book has been translated by author and publisher Ajit Baral in English.

Fineprint has published the book in Nepal. Likewise, Rachana Books in India and Balestier Press in the UK have published the translated book.

Fatsung was first published in Nepali language in 2019, which is in Bengali language too. Meanwhile, it is in the process of being published in Hindi language as per a press statement released by Fineprints.

The press statement quoted translator Baral saying, ‘International literature has been translated into Nepali, albeit few. However, it won’t be false, if it is said that Nepali literature has not been well translated into English or other languages so far. Therefore, we are trying to translate Nepali literature into English in order to bring Nepali literature to the international level. The Song of the Soil is the result of that effort. '

He added that the beautiful story of Darjeeling's identity struggle, which bears a lot in common sentiments with the armed Maoist conflict in Nepal, and his use of language inspired him to translate Fatsung.
