Engineer Suresh Thakur arrested with Rs 3.6 m bribe

BUTWAL, July 28: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Saturday arrested Engineer Suresh Thakur, chief of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Rupandehi, with Rs 3.6 million in bribe.

A team deployed from CIAA, Butwal chapter took him under control with the bribe from his office today itself. The anti-graft body also arrested Thakur’s wife.

He was arrested from Bhairahawa while his wife was intercepted from Manohari of Hetauda.

Acting on a tip-off, the CIAA team arrested Thakur’s wife at Manohari while she was heading to her house in Birgunj with the bribe, said Dinesh Kumar Acharya, chief of CIAA, Butwal chapter.

The anti-graft body seized Rs 1.2 million and a receipt of Rs 2.4 million deposited in a bank.

Earlier, verbal and written complaints had been lodged against Thakur accusing him of receiving bribe in the name of inspecting government building constructions and other facilities.  

Similarly, the anti-graft body also arrested Prakash Jha, sub engineer of Simaltari-Pyuthan road project, with bribe today itself.
