KATHMANDU, June 8: The Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee Employees Union has objected to the government's decision to scrap the committee through the budget statement for the coming fiscal year.

Issuing a  statement, President Rishi Ram Poudel of the union mentioned that point 177 of the budget statement for the coming fiscal year states that the development committee will be scrapped while point 176 states that budget has been allocated under the second phase of Melamchi Drinking Water Project including Yangri and Larke which has created confusion about the project.

According to the employees' union, the future of the project is questionable as it has reached its final stage due to the formation of a committee comprising the head of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, secretary of the concerned ministry, executive director of the project and joint secretary of the Ministry of Finance.

President Poudel said that it was unfortunate that the budget statement mentioning the dismissal of the committee did not mention anything about the employees who have been in office for the duration of the project under the direct supervision of the Public Service Commission.
