KATHMANDU, Nov 8: The peak demand of electricity reached 1,270 MW on the day of Laxmi Puja this year.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had projected that the peak demand would reach around 1,500 MW on the day of Laxmi Puja this year.

NEA has recorded a peak demand of 1,270 MW on the day of this year's Laxmi Puja at 6 PM. Last year, the peak demand on the same day was 1,123 MW. This year's peak demand for Laxmi Puja is 147 MW more than last year.

According to NEA, electricity had to be imported to meet the demand of Laxmi Puja in the past years and now it is being met by domestic production. During this year's Laxmi Puja peak demand period, 48-MW of electricity has been exported to India while imports have dropped to zero.

This year, the peak demand of the federal capital Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding areas has been recorded at 320.64 MW. Last year, the peak demand in the region was 296 MW.
