JUMLA, Nov 11: The disruption in the communication service for the last five days has created problems in public services delivery, election campaigns and personal communications for the locals in Jumla.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Jumla district chapter, has submitted a memorandum to the authorities concerned in the district to identify the issue and iron it out at the earliest. The umbrella organization of journalists acknowledged that the role of the media in making elections a success is very important and disruption of the communication services have made it difficult for the media to educate and inform the public about contemporary issues.

The FNJ handed over the memorandum to the Nepal Telecom and Nepal Telecommunication Authority through Chief District Officer (CDO) of Jumla Mukesh Kumar Kesari.

CDO Kesari said that efforts are underway to fix the problem prevailing in the communication sector in the district. New machines are being installed to upgrade the capacity of the machines for better services, according to him.

Natural disasters that occurred in the district in mid-October had disrupted communication services in the district completely. The services then resumed after maintenance.

But the disruption recurred in the district yet again. Against this backdrop, the FNJ took the lead to prod the local authority to ensure resumption of the communication services, according to FNJ Jumla District Chapter President Netra Bahadur Shahi.
