KATHMANDU, August 9: The government is administering the second dose of Covishield vaccine to the elderly from today.

People who received the first jab of Covishield vaccine and have been waiting for the second shot for months will be inoculated across the country. The government has made arrangements to vaccinate the people with the vaccines delivered from Bhutan and Japan. The vaccines will be made available in centers where people received Vero Cell vaccines.

The Bhutan government delivered 230,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal on Friday (August 6).

Similarly, Nepal received its first shipment of the Japanese-made AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines on Saturday and its second shipment arrived on Sunday. The shipment of the vaccines that arrived on Saturday and Sunday makes half of the 1.6 million doses Japan announced to donate under the COVAX facility.

The Bhutan government handed over the vaccines as per the agreement to return the vaccines to Bhutan later when Nepal starts receiving the Covishield vaccines as it has reached an agreement with Serum Institute, India to procure Covishield vaccines.
