Elderly man killed in rhino attack in Chitwan

A 60-year-old man from Bharatpur Metropolitan City–28, Jange Kumal, died after being attacked by a rhino while fishing near the Rapti River behind Meghauli Serai Hotel on Sunday night.

CHITWAN, June 16: A 60-year-old man from Bharatpur Metropolitan City–28, Jange Kumal, died after being attacked by a rhino while fishing near the Rapti River behind Meghauli Serai Hotel on Sunday night.


According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Chitwan, Kumal sustained serious injuries during the attack and later died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Bharatpur.

“The Area Police Office, Dibyanagar, received a distress call at 8:00 pm stating that a man had been impaled by a rhino about eight kilometers away from the office,” DSP Khanal told Republica, “When  a team led by Sub-Inspector Binod Adhikari reached the spot they found the person in serious condition.”


He added that the doctors declared Kumal dead at 9:30 pm. 


Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
