MYAGDI, March 30: Three sons of Dharmalal Rokka and Lalmati of Malika Rural Municipality-2 of Myagdi district had gone for foreign employment with the hopes of earning money and living a better life. However, all of them returned home in coffins within a decade.

With the death of their youngest son Dhan Bahadur, 29, the couple has lost three sons to foreign employment. Dhan Bahadur's body arrived home from Malaysia on Thursday, leaving the entire village in mourning.

“God betrayed our family. All our three sons returned home in coffins,” said Lalmati, as tears rolled down her eyes. Lalmati, 68, suffers from abdomen and cardiovascular illnesses while her husband, 72, is paralysed.

According to Nar Devi Pun, a local, the wailing of the family echoed across the village. “The deceased's aged parents, sister, sister-in-law and neighbors all cried - unable to control their emotions. It has been heartbreaking for all of us.”

Tham Bahadur, the elderly couple's only surviving son, said his brother wanted to return home in the last Dashain festival and get married. “He wanted to marry a girl of his choice who would also take care of our old and ill parents. But his wish remained unfulfilled,” said Tham Bahadur, unable to control his tears.

The family is very poor. Their house is very old and is badly in need of maintenance. The family struggles for survival. Their neighbors collected money for the final rites of the deceased.

The couple's eldest son Tama Bahadur, second son Bhakta Bahadur and youngest son Dhan Bahadur all died while in foreign employment.

Bhakta Bahadur was the first one to go for foreign employment in Qatar about 12 years ago. He died in less than a year of going there. After his death, Bhakta Bahadur went to work in Malaysia as the family was struggling financially. He also died within 18 months of setting his foot there. The youngest son met a similar fate as he too perished during foreign employment.
