KATHMANDU, June 9: Nepal Workers and Peasants Party  lawmaker Prem Suwal has said that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is simply not needed if it cannot make secondary level education free.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday, member of parliament (MP) Suwal said that secondary education should be free and compulsory. He said that there was no need for the Ministry of Education if the government failed to make secondary education free and compulsory. He said that even university education should be free.

Suwal said, "If the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology does not make secondary and university education free and compulsory, then we don’t need this ministry. We don’t need the ministry if it does not cancel the operating licenses of foreign university-affiliated colleges which are cheating.”

Similarly, MP Suwal also made a remark that the Ministry of Drinking Water has no relevance if the people of Terai have to drink water containing arsenic.
