KATHMANDU , May 15: Following widespread complaints about slow pace of vote counting, the Election Commission is preparing to mobilize additional staffers to local units for speeding up vote counts.

“We are considering instructing returning officers to speed-up vote counting although they are fully independent to handle elections. Also, we are planning to deploy additional workforce,” said Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav.

The election body has been criticized for failing to deliver election results on time. Delay in collecting ballot boxes, large-sized ballot papers and frequent disputes among parties contesting in the elections have been blamed for the delay.
