KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to conduct by-elections for 34 vacant local posts in December.
On Monday, EC Chief Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya and other commissioners met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. They proposed holding the by-elections during the first week of December to address the vacant positions.
32 posts remain vacant in local-level
During their meeting at the Prime Minister's Office in Singha Durbar, the EC reported that 34 posts, including the head of Kirtipur Municipality, remain unfilled.
Prime Minister Oli requested that the election date be set to ensure it takes place before the onset of winter. He also urged the EC to manage election costs prudently.
Prior to announcing the election date, the EC will call for an update of the voter list at the relevant levels.
