KATHMANDU, Jan 18: The Election Commission (EC) has urged all political parties to assist in the preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10.
The EC on Sunday held discussions with 11 political parties represented in the HoR, provincial assemblies and local level and requested them to update the voter list for the election and assist in determining the polling stations.
During the discussion, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that it was the constitutional responsibility of the commission to prepare for the election after the announcement of the dates of election by the government. Chief Commissioner Thapaliya said, “As the voter list from 753 local level centers will be updated from January 28, we request the political parties to play an active and effective role in determining the polling stations and venues.”
Representatives of both factions of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) were present at the meeting. Baburam Dahal from K P Oli-led NCP faction and Rajendra Pandey and Lilamani Pokharel from Pushpa Kamal Dahal-Madhav Kumar Nepal-led factions were present in the meeting.
During the discussion, Pandey reminded that they have already applied to the commission to stop the preparations for the HoR election as the hearing on the writ petitions against the dissolution of the parliament is currently underway in the Supreme Court.
