KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat is leading the Nepali delegation to the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which was opened in UN Headquarters at New York on 13 September 2016.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the members of delegation of Nepal to the 71st Session of the UNGA include parliamentarian Mohan Bahadur Basnet, Chief Secretary Dr. Somlal Subedi, Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi, and Nepal's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Durga Prasad Bhattarai among others.
The General Debate of the 71st Session of the UNGA will begin on 20 September. Peter Thomson from Fiji is the President of the 71st session of the General Assembly. The theme of the 71st Session is "The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform our World".
The Minister for Foreign Affairs has already left for New York yesterday and other members of the delegation including parliamentarian, Chief Secretary and Foreign Secretary will be leaving for New York this evening.
While in New York, the leader of Nepali delegation and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Mahat will address the General Assembly and attend high-level meeting on addressing large movement of refugees and migrants as well as a side-event on Regionalism and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Earlier, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was scheduled to leave for New York today leading the Nepali delegation to the 71st Session of UNGA.
