KATHMANDU, Aug 6: Solidarity for Dr Govinda K C Alliance has submitted a memorandum to the Chairman the Good Governance and Monitoring Committee of the parliament on Friday. The document detailed reasons for impeaching Lokman Singh Karki, Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

Committee's Chairman Mohan Singh Rathore assured the delegation that the committee would of not leave any stone unturned in investigating the issue. The parliamentary body is responsible for overseeing and monitoring CIAA activities.

“Our committee is entrusted with the responsibility to oversee activities of the CIAA, so we will do it without any fear and hesitation. Rumors about lawmakers fearing from the CIAA are not true,” a press release issued from the Alliance quoted Rathore as saying in the meeting. According to the delegation members, Rathore assured them of probing all allegations raised against the Karki adding that no individuals have the right to breach constitutional jurisdictions.

He said the committee does not have the authority to initiate impeachment process against CIAA chief Karki, even if he is found guilty. He stressed that the committee led by him can only make recommendations in the matter.

“If majority of lawmakers demanded impeachment against Karki no one can obstruct it,” the press release quoted Rathore as saying to the delegation.

Stating that demands raised by Dr Govinda KC reflect the feelings of all people who aspire for good governance and rule of law, the Alliance also urged the committee to expand the area of probe against Karki.
