KATHMANDU, Sep 28: Supporters of Dr Govinda KC have filed a complaint against Janak Raj Dahal, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, and Senior Superintendent of Police Shyam Lal Gyawali, chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, at the National Human Rights Commission.
Dr KC’s supporters say that the complaint has been filed as the Kathmandu Police arrested them without any reason on Saturday. “We were arrested by the Kathmandu Police following directions from CDO Dahal,” said Pukar Bam, one of the arrested.
On Saturday, 17 supporters of Dr Govinda KC were arrested from Maitighar on the charge of mocking Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. A huge number of Dr KC’s supporters had staged a protest at Maitighar by wearing face masks of PM KP Oli.
Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr KC has been staging a hunger strike for the last 15 days demanding reforms in the medical sector.
“We were held hostage by police. They [police] arrested us without any reason. We were staging a protest by following proper safety standards,” said Bam, adding that CDO Dahal and SSP Gyawali must face legal actions.
