KATHMANDU, Dec 4: Dr. Govinda KC, a senior Orthopredic Surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), who was on a fast unto death for the last 21 days has ended it on the 22nd day today.
Putting forward a 10-point demand including the resignation of the dean of Institute of Medicine (IOM) Prof. Dr. KP Singh and TU Vice Chancellor Tirtha Khaniya, Dr. KC had launched a hunger strike at TUTH. He ended it today by drinking fruit juice from the hands of a two-and-a-half-years earthquake victim child.
To express solidarity with Dr. KC, IOM Dean Prof. Dr. KP Singh resigned from his position on friday while the TU Vice Chancellor is due to do so.
The agreement, which was ready on Saturday night, was signed at 9 AM today. He drank the juice at 10 AM.
The doctors at the hospital had urged him to end his fast on Saturday night due to his constantly fluctuating heart beats. Dr. KC, however, denied the doctors by stating to end it next morning.
