JAJARKOT, April 29: In lack of electricity service, folks of Dolpa district headquarters, Dunai, have been forced to live in dark for over three months. The hardest hit from the disruption of a power supply is District Hospital Dolpa.

Even the operation of the x-ray machine at the hospital has been badly affected due to lack of electricity. According to hospital sources, the routine health services have seen trouble following the obstruction of electricity supplied through solar power.

The power supply has come to a halt in 1,200 households in the area including Dunai after the canal of local Jairigad Hydropower Project was broken down by a dry landslide three months ago. With the service thrown out of gear, relatives of the patients have been compelled to rent a generator for accessing x-ray service. Jayakrishna Budha, a local, said he had to rent a generator to get an x-ray of his son's fractured hand. He was compelled to pay an exorbitant price for the service.

The power outage has also troubled the operation of banks, media and other works requiring an electricity supply. Mukesh Kesari, Chief District Officer of Dolpa, said Rs 5.9 million has been allocated from the Nepal Electricity Authority for the resumption of power supply in the district headquarters. "Lack of electricity has brought several things to a halt in the district", he added.
