KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The Nepal Medical Association has decided to shut down all services except those to emergency and COVID-19 cases from Sunday in a bid to pressurize the government to fulfill the demands of Dr Govinda KC.
Issuing a press statement, the umbrella organization of professional medical doctors said that the decision to shut down the services has been taken as the government is reluctant to fulfil the demands presented by Dr KC.
The association has also threatened to unveil stern protest programs if the demands of Dr KC are not met by Sunday evening.
In the meantime, the government has already urged Dr KC to withdraw the fast-unto-death, claiming that some of his demands have already been met and others are in the process of being implemented.
Dr KC has been staging his 19th fast-unto-death for the last 27 days demanding reforms in the country’s medical education and health sectors. Dr KC has put forth a six-point demand with the government.
The talks between the government and Dr Govinda KC on Friday failed after Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel allegedly turned down some of the key agreements reached between the talks teams of the two sides.
