To make it more palatable, they started diluting it with hot water. This created a milder coffee that resembled the drip coffee they were used to back home.


The drink became known as "Caffè Americano," which translates to "American coffee" in Italian. The name stuck, and today, the Americano is a popular coffee choice worldwide.
