KATHMANDU, May 4: The District Attorney Office, Kathmandu, on Monday registered a complaint against ruling Nepal Communist Party lawmakers Mahesh Basnet and Kisan Shrestha, and former Inspector General of Nepal Police, Sarbendra Khanal, for the alleged abduction of Janata Samajbadi party lawmaker Dr Surendra Yadav.

Deputy attorney Hari Prasad Uprety said that they have registered the complaint today as per the existing laws. Earlier on April 28, the district attorney had refused to lodge the complaint, seeking some time to study the complaint. Now, the attorney’s office will forward the complaint to the police for further action.

In his complaint, lawmaker Yadav has claimed that his kidnapping by two NCP lawmakers and former IGP Khanal had taken place at the behest of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on April 22 to split the then Samajbadi Party.

However, Basnet, Shrestha and former IGP Khanal have denied the abduction charges, calling it a conspiracy to defame them.

Last week, it was revealed that former IGP Khanal, NCP leaders Basnet and Shrestha had brought lawmaker Yadav from Janakpur to Kathmandu. Subsequently, lawmaker Yadav was kept at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, Nagpokhari.

Meanwhile, NCP lawmakers Basnet and Shrestha, and former IGP Khanal filed a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission today saying that the abduction as claimed by lawmaker Yadav was ill-intended and misleading and it was truly a conspiracy to defame them.
