TANAHUN, Aug 15: Coordinator of Naya Shakti Nepal Dr Baburam Bhattarai today stated that the new constitution has some flaws and it should be corrected.
"The parliamentary system should be abolished and directly-elected presidential system should be in place," he said.
Bhattarai was speaking at a press conference organised by the Tanahun chapter of the Press Society Nepal.
Referring to the risk of frequent change of the governments under the parliamentary system, he said that a provision should be in place that allows a government to rule at least for five years.
Frequently changeable government means government employees go past their responsibility and other government sectors fail to become active, he said. "As a result of this, development cannot take place," he added.
On the Madhes issue, Dr Bhattarai said that the demands of the protesting Madhes-based political parties should be addressed through the amendment to the constitution.
In a different context, he stated that the expansion of Naya Shakti was underway and the existing number of its membership is aimed to double in the next three months. RSS
