KATHMANDU, July 15: The home ministry has recommended Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) Niraj Shahi and Pradhyumna Kumar Karki to be promoted to Additional Inspectors General (AIG) of Nepal Police.
A decision to recommend the names of Shahi and Karki for the two vacant posts of AIG was made by the Promotion Committee led by the home secretary on Wednesday. While Shahi is currently serving as the spokesperson, Karki heads the Special Bureau of Nepal Police.
Both Shahi and Karki are batchmates of the newly-appointed Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Kshetri. Both of them have earned accolades for their sterling performance while discharging their duties.
The promotion of Shahi and Karki to the post of AIG has been seen with much importance within the police organization as one of them will be appointed as the chief of Nepal Police after the retirement of the incumbent police chief Kshetri after his four-year term. Along with Shahi and Karki, DIG Bishwa Raj Pokharel was also vying for the post of AIG.
