Issuing a press statement on Thursday it confirmed the death of 132 in Jajarkot, 35 in Rukum and one in Bajura after locally verifying the deaths through its health officials. The statement is, however, silent about the outbreak in Rolpa, Surkhet and Salyan.
The statement comes in stark contrast to Director General of the Department of Health Services Dr Govinda Ojha´s briefing to the Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the parliament Wednesday.
Ojha had put the toll at five in Rolpa, four in Surkhet, and three each in Salyan and Dadeldhura. He had also confirmed deaths of 128 in Jajarkot and 32 in Rukum.
Acting chief of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Dr Biswa Raj Khanal, however, clarified that the death toll in Jajarkot and Rukum was cumulative. Dr Khanal further revealed that apart from the one in Bajura there have been no deaths in other districts in the past few days.
