DHARAN, March 18: With the market reeling under acute shortage of sanitizers, the Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has started the production of sanitizers to fulfill the local demand.


Amid threats of possible COVID-19 outbreak, the sub-metropolitan has started producing hand sanitizers in coordination with the Central Campus of Technology, Hattisar. The sanitizers produced by the sub-metropolitan city will be distributed in the region. Likewise, leaders of social organizations will also be trained to produce hand sanitizers.

According to Dr Dil Kumar Limbu, acting chief of the campus, the sub-metropolitan city has provided necessary raw materials to produce hand sanitizers. “The human resources and necessary technology of the campus have been mobilized for the production,” said Limbu, adding that members of microbiology department and students of the campus have been producing hand sanitizers in the Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City.


According to the campus, it is planning to produce at least 200 liters of hand sanitizer for the time being. On Tuesday, a total of 100 liters of hand sanitizer was produced, informed Dhiren Limbu, chief of the microbiology department of the campus.


“As per the plan, 50 liters will be produced on Wednesday, while 50 liters will be produced later in five different regions of the Sub-Metropolitan City,” he said, adding that hand sanitizer is being produced as per the standards of the World Health Organization.
