POKHARA, March 10: Dhan Bahadur Thapa defeated Nepal’s number one professional golfer Shivaram Shrestha in extra hole to win the Surya Nepal Western Open Golf Tournament played at Himalayan Gold Course, Pokhara on Friday.

The 54-hole tournament which spanned for three days, both the golfers, Dhan Bahadur and Shivaram, were tied on 216 from 6 over when the match was pushed to extra hole.

This is Dhan Bahadur’s second Western Open trophy and third in his overall career. He held the Western Open trophy in 2015 as well as Surya Nepal Challenge in 2011.

The winner received Rs 115,000 whereas the first runner-up Shivaram had to do with cash prize of Rs 74,000.

The second runner-up Bhuvan Nagarkoti earned Rs 53,000. Jaya Ram Shrestha and Bhuv Bahadur Gurung received Rs 39,500 each after finishing combined fourth.

Ajit Bikele, Suresh Tamang and Niraj Tamang finished top three respectively in the amateur category. This is Ajit’s first career title.
