KATHMANDU: ‘Art: Creation and Exhibition for Development’ being held in Nepal Art Council from Sunday features the works of about 20 students of Lalitkala Campus, and is based on development. The exhibition is sponsored by Lalitkala Campus, and scheduled to continue till July 13.

The exhibit showcases a diverse range of paintings by different artists, including Batsa Gopal Vaidya, Bipin Kumar Ghimire, Hari Prasad Sharma. As the theme is development, paintings at the exhibit show evolution in their own ways. Some paintings are about human development, while some depict the transformation of a slum into big city. The exhibition also features destructive facets of development, for instance the demolition of nature to build new settlements.

“Many paintings might not seem like they are related to the theme, like abstract art. But, it is just another way of portraying the artists’ thoughts on the particular concept. The most important thing is the way artists play with colors and theme,” said Suchin Shrestha, an artist.

Most of the creations on display are acrylic and oil painting. The exhibition also features some sculptures related to development.
