Departmental teams into quarters

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The departmental teams Armed Police Force (APF) and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) have entered into the quarterfinals of the ongoing fourth NST-NVA National Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Tournament with their respective wins on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The departmental teams Armed Police Force (APF) and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) have entered into the quarterfinals of the ongoing fourth NST-NVA National Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Tournament with their respective wins on Sunday. 


In the opening match of men’s category played at the National Sports Council (NSC)’s Covered Hall, APF defeated Budhanilkantha Volleyball Club 25-5, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20. 


In the other match of the same category, TAC beat Dhorpatan Sports Club on straight sets of 25-15, 25-13, 25-13 in a group of only two teams and entered into the last eight as group winners.

In the tournament organized by Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA), APF and TAC also registered victories in women’s categories. 


APF overcame the other departmental team Nepal Police Club (NPC) on straight sets of 3-0 of 25-16, 25-27, 25-14, while TAC saw off Dhorpatan 25-20, 25-7, 25-6 on straight sets. 


The winner of the tournament, which concludes on March 3, will receive Rs 150,000 in both the categories, while the runners-up will be prized with Rs 100,000 each. 


Likewise, the third-placed teams will get Rs 60,000 each, while the best player of tournament will be prized with Rs 15,000 and the best players of each category will bag Rs 5,000 each. 


A total of 11 men’s and seven women’s teams are taking part in the tournament which is being played in league cum knockout format. 


Top two teams of each group will reach the quarterfinals. In women’s categories, seven teams are divided into two groups, and the top two teams will directly enter into the last four. 


In men’s category, Nepal Sports Club and Mani Mukunda Volleyball Club will take on each other, while NPC will vie against Nayabazaar Social Club on Monday. Also, in women’s category, NPC will play against Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center, while Shivam New Diamond Academy (NDA) will battle against Padmodaya Youth Club on the same day.
