PARBAT, Sept 13: The number of dengue cases has increased sharply in Parbat district. The stakeholders have argued that the cases of dengue fever increased in Parbat due to the lack of precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

So far, 650 people have been confirmed infected with dengue fever in this season in Parbat, Medical Superintendent of Parbat Hospital, Dr Hemanta Bastola, said. Of them, more than 500 cases are from the district headquarters of Kushma.

Dr Bastola said that the hospital, which has 60 beds, is full of dengue patients at present.

A woman died of dengue fever in the district this year.

However, the chief of the Health Section of Kushma Municipality, Yam Prasad Sharma, claimed that the number of dengue patients taking bed rest at home without visiting the hospitals could be much higher than the official records.

It is said that the white blood cell count goes down in the critical cases of dengue. Most of the cases are controlled through Cetamol tablets, doctors stated.

Most dengue patients have symptoms such as high fever, headache, body ache, loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea.

Dengue was first detected in Nepal in the year 2004 and the cases have increased since then.

The mosque-transmitted disease which would be mostly found in Terai-Madhesh in the past has also been increasingly detected in mountainous cities.
