KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the federal democratic system of governance has been possible in the country at present because of the sacrifice made by the martyrs.

Garlanding the Martyr's Monument at Lainchaur today on the last day of Martyr's Week, he recalled that a big political change has become a success in the country due to the selfless sacrifices and the dedication of the martyrs.

Prime Minister Deuba urged one and all to contribute from their respective places for fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs as the rule of law and political change have been possible as a result of the martyrs' contribution.

Reiterating that the government was committed to building a prosperous nation as envisioned by the martyrs, Prime Minister Deuba directed the bodies concerned to prepare an integrated record of the true martyrs.

"The upcoming goal of the nation is to steer it ahead towards an advanced country, strengthening the democracy and federal governance system by institutionalizing the political change," PM Deuba said.

At the commemorative event, Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya recalled that the establishment of democracy was possible in the country due to the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Home Minister Balkrishna Khand and Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi were among the limited number of officials present on the occasion due to the risk of COVID-19.

The morning procession which was a regular feature of the Martyr's Day program was not held this year over the risk of the pandemic.

This year's Martyr's Week has been concluded by organizing a brief program at the Martyr's Memorial at Lainchaur.

KMC has been marking Magh 10 -16 of the Nepali calendar each year as the Martyr's Week during which the martyrs are remembered, paying rich tribute to them at various events.
