Delightful dining

Wicked Spoon, Fork and Rock is located in Jhamsikhel, nestled between Roadhouse Café and Fusion Bar. It’s a cozy place with good interiors that serve generous portions of food without making you empty out your wallet. The Week’s Isha Upadhyay wanted to see how the food and service were in general and tested it out by going in for a sneak review a few days before the scheduled review date. The food and service both the times were the same.

Ambiance
There is a lot of seating options in the restaurant, whether you want to be out in an open space or cozy and out of sight from the entrance. There are comfortable seating arrangements with couches for big groups too. There is live music every weekend and on Wednesday nights. On the other days (and nights) there is always music channel on, playing different music videos on a big projector screen. The music isn’t so loud that you have to shout to be heard.

Service
All the waiters here are very friendly and will constantly check up on you to see whether you need refills on your water, or if you want to order more food without being too annoying. They will help you take as many photos as you want without grumbling and even suggest poses. The food, which isn’t prepped from the morning and is made almost from scratch when the order is placed, doesn’t take too long to reach your table.

Nachos
If you want something to nibble on while you enjoy some of the wonderful drinks they have on the menu, then you can’t go wrong with ordering a plate of nachos. While the crisps are standard store bought ones, the salsa is the real deal. We guarantee you’ll love the dip so much that you’ll be having it with every other item you order plus asking for another plate of nachos just for an extra bowl of that sweet, spicy salsa.

Beer batter fish n chips
The whole team, having eaten this item, unanimously decided that it was one of the best dishes in the menu, and we have gone back for it quite a few times since – together and with our own group of friends. There are two generous pieces of fish along with French fries (yes, with the grated cheese) that is served with mayonnaise. The batter is crispy and crunchy and the fish is so buttery that you don’t even need a knife to cut through, the fork is enough. It isn’t very oily and the mayo dip serves as the perfect condiment for the dish. Make sure, if you order this item, you don’t order anything else with it, or order something really light, because chances are you will be quite full even if two people are sharing it.

Corn pakoda
Sweet corns dunked in batter and deep fried is not something we hear of often and many might not find this appetizing. However, this signature dish at Wicked Spoon does stand out with little left to be desired. The corn is sweet and the batter is crispy. The presentation is simple and artistic with the pakoda’s stacked on top of one another and none of the garnishes are there just for show. The parsley and the mustard with the ketchup uplift the taste and give it a tangy flavor. It is cooked with a little bit of honey to give that hint of sweetness.

Lemon chicken
The first thing you notice about this dish is the beautiful presentation of the food that will immediately want you to whip out your phone to Snapchat or Instagram it. After each slice of chicken there is a thin slice of lemon wedged in between which keeps the chicken moist and lemony, making it live up to its name. The fried spaghetti that is used for presentation looks beautiful but we would recommend you to not try eating it – its purpose on the plate is decoration and no amount of rolling it around in the dressing will improve its taste. The fries on the side have a little cheese grated on top which will makes the little foodie inside you really happy. The salad that accompanies this dish should be eaten with the chicken. Though it tastes fresh and tangy it works better with the dish than all by itself.

Spicy pepper chicken
It’s chicken, and it’s spicy, and it’s delicious. It has just the right amount of spices and the slices are thin and crispy. The meat itself is still succulent and isn’t dried out because of the deep frying. The Dijon mustard that is used in the batter that coats the chicken gives it a sharp flavor to contest and balance the spiciness provided by a mixture of black pepper, red chili, and paprika powder.

Long island iced tea
Almost every place in Kathmandu serves this cocktail but few manage to get it right. Wicked Spoon is one of those few places. The long island here is a balanced drink that isn’t too strong when you take a sip but definitely strong enough to give you a nice buzz when you are finished as it is served in a large, generous glass. Garnished with a lemon and sometimes even black olives, this drink could quickly become your favorite for a night out.
