KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Minister for Defence Dr Minendra Rijal has called a press conference at 4:00 PM today after tendering his resignation from the ministerial position.  

After losing in the election for the post of General Secretary in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC), Defense Minister Dr Rijal announced his resignation from the post.

Earlier today, Dr Rijal in his facebook post had announced he would submit his resignation to the Prime Minister after the final vote results come out. He said that he had decided to resign from the post of the Minister of Defence in view of the clear message received from the preliminary election results of the elections for the post of General Secretary in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress in which. He secured 809 votes in the election.

He submitted his resignation to the PM after his defeat was confirmed.
