KATHMANDU, Aug 1: It is likely that the meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) scheduled for today will not endorse the name of incumbent Acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshi to the post of Chief Justice.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepal Communist Party Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal are not in a mood to endorse Joshi’s name.
The situation has turned unfavorable for Joshi after the main opposition, who was lobbying in support of Joshi earlier, also started following suit.
Joshi has an option to back off from the race of CJ by tendering his resignation. However, Joshi also is not in a mood to step down. The opposition leaders had advised Joshi to resign.
The ruling party and the opposition have agreed to take an intermediary option following the tug-of-war between them in the appointment of CJ.
It is learnt that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NCP Chairperson KP Sharma Oli who held talks over the telephone onTuesday evening and this morning agreed not to drag the issue into controversy.
