KATHMANDU, April 19: Police have arrested an absconding attempted murder convict Rajib Gurung aka Deepak Manange from Swoyambhu of the Capital on Thursday.

SSP Bishwo Raj Pokehrel at Metropolitan Police Circle Teku stated that police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested Manange, who was elected as an independent candidate to a provincial assembly seat from Manang district.

The Interpol had also issued a red corner notice against Manange. He did not administer oath as the Provincial Assembly member till date.

The Supreme Court has upheld a five-year jail sentence handed down to Deepak Manange.

A division bench of Justices Deepak Raj Joshi and Purushottam Bhandari issued the ruling on January 16. The Patan Appellate Court had convicted four persons including Manange for attempted murder and slapped a five-year jail term on him for involvement in the case. He was elected as an independent candidate from Manang B.

The case arose from an assault by Manange's gang against the rival gang of Milan Gurung alias Chakre Milan.

The other three convicted including Rewat Karki appealed to the SC four years ago, but not Manange.
