Decision to split seven ministries into 12 courts strong backlash

ITAHARI, Feb 5: A group of students affiliated to All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) close to CPN-UML on Friday staged protest programs against Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai for increasing the number of ministries to 12 in Province 1.  


Stating that the provincial government had divided the ministries to settle the shares of the coalition government, the agitated students protested the decision by carrying black flags. According to Jivi Gajal, one of the protesters, the agitation would continue till the government decides to correct its decision.

Earlier on Sunday, the Province 1 cabinet meeting had decided to expand the number of ministries. As per the cabinet's decision, the seven ministries of Province 1 were split and the number was increased to 12. 


Meanwhile, the CPN-UML has also protested the decision to increase the number of ministries. Issuing a press note, CPN-UML leader Bhim Acharya condemned the government’s decision and demanded it to be revoked without further delay.
