KARNALI, April 5: The corpse of a newborn baby pictured while a dog was carrying it in its mouth on the premises of the Surkhet Provincial Hospital on Saturday has been identified. The identity of the decapitated body was revealed after a police investigation.
The hospital's attention was drawn after a picture of a dog carrying the body of a headless newborn baby in its mouth on the hospital premises went viral. The hospital then requested the police to investigate the incident.

The hospital management had come under heavy criticism in social media for alleged serious negligence in managing the body.
According to the District Police Office, the baby was born to Pavitra BK of Dailekh Municipality-9 at the hospital. The baby was stillborn at the provincial hospital on March 28. The body was handed over to the parents, who reportedly cremated it in a forest within the hospital area, according to Inspector of Police Kanak Bahadur Shahi. The body is believed to have been dug out by the dog from where it was buried.
Police have handed over the body back to the parents for proper cremation.
