Unsafe abortion increases in Palpa

Teenage girls contribute to 51 percent of those seeking abortion services in Palpa, according to data maintained by the District Health Office. Compared to the last fiscal year, the number of women seeking abortion increased from 730 to 917. The data shows that 22% of those opting to abort their babies were illiterate while 21% had primary education. The data shows that of those aborting their babies, 59% opted for unsafe services. Such unsafe abortion has led to 7% of maternity death

CIAA files graft-case against 16 individuals for transferring land ownership illegally

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a graft case at the Special Court against 16 individuals including Kamal Prasad Timalsina, chief of Land Revenue Office, Chabahil for their alleged involvement in transferring the land ownership illegally. Those involved in the land graft case include officials of Land Revenue Office, Chabahil Kagendra Prasad Aryal, Ram Prasad Subedi, Ranjan Kumar Kharel, Jamuna Kumari Shrestha, Hari Khadka. They have been charged under The Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002.

Nepali Congress expresses sorrow over the massive fire in Kalikot

The Nepali Congress expressed sorrow over damage caused by a massive fire that charred at least 87 houses in Palata rural municipality of Kalikot. The opposition party also urged the government to provide immediate relief and arrange temporary shelter to the displaced families and wished for a speedy recovery of the injured people.

Girl stabbed for refusing a marriage proposal

Kishore Prasad Chaudhary of Parsagadhi municipality-1 stabbed and seriously injured Shakuntala Chaudhary, 18, with a knife for repeatedly refusing his marriage proposal. Shakuntala is undergoing treatment at the National Medical College, Birgunj. Both of them were studying in grade 11 at Nepal National Higher Secondary School, Badhaniyar. Kishore has been arrested and an investigation is underway, according to DSP Man Bahadur Rai of District Police Office, Parsa.

Pakistan’s former PM sentenced to 7 years for corruption

A court in Pakistan has sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison for corruption and acquitted him in a second case. The verdict came after Sharif was removed from power last year over corruption allegations. Sharif, who was serving his third stint as prime minister, has denied any wrongdoing. Sharif is accused of possessing assets beyond his known sources of income. He was arrested after the ruling was announced. He can appeal the verdict.

Young players bag 20 gold medals in Asia Cup Karate

Young players proved their worth and bagged 20 gold medals in the Asia Cup Fourth International Karate Championship in Mumbai of India. The Sports Science Academy of Nepal had given opportunities to young players to test their abilities in the international tournament.
