Death toll from spurious liquor consumption reaches six in Malaysia

KATHMANDU, Sept. 18: The death toll of Nepali migrant workers after the consumption of toxic liquor has reached six in Malaysia till this morning.

KATHMANDU, Sept. 18: The death toll of Nepali migrant workers after the consumption of toxic liquor has reached six in Malaysia till this morning. 


Another 17 were seriously sickened following the consumption of the spurious hooch in Selangor State of the Malaysia.

According to chargé d'affaires of Embassy of Nepal in Malaysia Kumarraj Kharel, the seriously ill are being treated in the local hospitals. 


Five Nepali workers died of alcohol poisoning at Sungai Buloh hospital. Other nine sickened are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

  • Sungai Buloh Hospital: Admitted: 9 / Dead: 5 

  • Kajang Hospital: Admitted: 5 / Dead: 1

  • Banting Hospital: Admitted: 1  

  • Ampang Hospital: Admitted : 1  

  • Klang Hospital: Admitted: 1

  • Likewise, one died in course of treatment at Kajang hospital. Another five are undergoing treatment there, Kharel informed. 


One each is being treated at Byangting, Ampang and Kiang hospitals of Malaysia. 


Nepali Embassy has mobilized two teams to facilitate in the treatment of Nepali migrant workers in different hospitals of Malaysia.
