Death anniversary of Begum Hazrat Mahal commemorated

KATHMANDU, April 7 : A wreath laying ceremony was jointly organized by Nepal-India Millat Council, Embassy of India in Kathmandu, BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Jame Masjid to commemorate the detah anniversary of Negum Hazrat Mahal on Tuesday.

Charge De' Affaires of Embassy of India Piyush Srivasta had laid wreath on the tomb of Begum Hazarat Mahal at Jame Masjid in Bag Bazar.


 

Begum Hazrat Mahal was wife of then ruler of Awadh, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. She was an Indian freedom fighter who rebelled against the British East India Company during the India's first struggle for freedom in 1857. An inscription on her tomb says that she breathed her last in Nepal on April 7, 1979.
