BHAKTAPUR, Sept 25: The crime rate in Bhaktapur district is high. According to Shiva Kumar Shrestha, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur, said that data covering the past five years shows that the crime rate in the district has been on the rise.
In an interaction program on the current situation of crime in Bhaktapur, organized by Bhaktapur Municipality and Community Police Partnership Committee on Friday, SP Shrestha made a presentation on the current crime situation in Bhaktapur district.
Answering the queries raised in the program, SP Shrestha said that cooperation with the people's representatives and local people was needed to control crime. He said that there is a plan to install CCTV cameras at the main checkpoints of the city and the police have been emphasizing on giving necessary advice to those who make unnecessary noise and fight after drinking alcohol.

Similarly, the people's representatives and representatives of various organizations expressed their views on the need to control the sale and distribution of home-made liquor at the grocery shops and check illegal liquor production in the municipality.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, Sunil Prajapati said that peace, security and crime control would only be possible with the joint efforts of the police administration and the people's representatives.
Likewise, Deputy Mayor Rajni Joshi stressed the need for making public the incidents of crime in Bhaktapur Municipality and said that a joint initiative from all was needed to make Bhaktapur a safe city.
