BHIMDATTANAGAR, Dec 11: The perennial exodus of people towards the lowlands to avoid cold has taken place in the district with winter reaching its peak this year.
In a bid to escape chilling cold, local people of mountainous areas of the district like Byas and Rapla VDCs have started leaving the villages in horde, empting the settlements.
In order to avoid cold, people of mountainous areas in general leave their settlements during winter and return in April-May.
"The VDCs are empty without its inhabitants due to snowfalls. The locals have descended towards the district headquarters Khalanga to avoid cold," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Kedar Khanal.
More than 150 families from Chhangru and Tinkar villages have already left the settlements, local people said.
"Locals leave villages during winter. So police patrol the villages round the clock lest property and valuables of the seasonal migrants should not be stolen or destroyed," Khanal said.
Meanwhile, two police beats at Tikkar and Sitapul in the district have shifted to Dumling to escape cold. RSS
