TULSIPUR, July 18: The Dang District Court, Deukhuri last fiscal year registered 640 cases related to divorce and the figure is the highest among the cases filed at the court in the period.

The court records show that in a period of one year, 495 couples were legally separated. As stated by (court) judge Hemanta Rawal, 640 couples filed for a divorce and among them 495 were allowed to separate from each other. Foreign employment, love marriage and growing preference among the new generation for freedom of choices are the apparent reasons behind increasing cases of divorce in the district.

The court's records of previous fiscal year show that a total of 527 couples had filed for the separation and the court had ordered the legal dissolution of a marriage between 418 couples. Likewise, 25 cases of rape, out of 56 registered in the period, were settled. The cases arrived in the court include domestic violence against women, human trafficking and so on.

The court made public the official work progress report of the last fiscal year through a press meet here today. The total registered cases were 2,305 and above 50 percent (1,471) were finalised.
