Daily turnover plunges to Rs 6.91 billion as NEPSE nosedives 26.22 points

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Tuesday plummeted 26.22 points to close at 2,796.24 points.



The secondary market opened at 2,822.46 points and hit the day’s high at 2,828.58 points in the first 14 minutes, followed by a 23 points drop in the subsequent half an hour of transaction. The market witnessed nominal fluctuations until the last 45 minutes of the trading hours. In the remaining period, the index went into a straight fall before the market closed for the day.

Only hotels and tourism was the single gainer that posted an impressive upturn of 91.23 points. Out of the 12 losers, life insurance and non-life insurance plunged by 141.27 points and 102.88 points, respectively.  


The sensitive index which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies declined 4.03 points. The daily turnover declined significantly to Rs 6.91 billion from Rs 10.21 billion on Monday.  


Among the individual companies, only 24 were gainers while 225 were recorded as losers. Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 267.75 million.


Sikles Hydropower Limited with a decline of 9.99 percent was the topmost loser, while City Hotel Limited added a similar percentage in its market price and recorded as the highest gainer.
