KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist party (NCP) is organizing a mass gathering in the capital today in a bid to show its strength.

The gathering is being organized to show their strong differences over the dissolution of the lower house of the federal parliament. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the parliament at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Oli on December 20 -- something the Dahal-Nepal faction has termed unconstitutional.

According to senior leaders belonging to the Dahal-Nepal faction of the NCP, the protest rallies against the dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR) are  being organized in different places of Kathmandu before organizing a mass gathering in Bhrikutimandap area in the capital. The protest rallies will start at 11:00 am from various places including Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Tripureshwor, Maitighar, Keshar Mahal and Jamal.

The NCP has assigned different leaders to lead the rally in the designated places. NCP leaders close to Dahal-Nepal faction including Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Pampha Bhusal, Raghuji Panta, Astalaxmi Shakya, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Chakrapani Khanal, Janardhan Sharma, Barshaman Pun, Girirajmani Pokharel, Matrika Yadav, Dev Prasad Gurung, among others will be leading the protests from different locations to Bhrikutimandap.

The mass gathering is expected to throw the vehicular movement in the inner parts of Kathmandu out of gear almost throughout the day.

The Dahal-Nepal faction has announced to bring around 200,000 people in the capital from various parts of the country to protest against the dissolution of the HoR. The NCP has seen a vertical split across all party’s committees after the prime minister’s move to dissolve the parliament.
