KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Chief Minister (CM) of Province 1, Sherdhan Rai has said that the rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal could have been preparing for the forthcoming midterm polls.

CM Rai, who was addressing a mass gathering of the NCP’s faction close to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Biratnagar on Saturday, said that the ‘Dahal-Nepal-Khanal Company’ might be preparing for registering a new party at the Election Commission with a new election symbol and contesting the election.

PM Oli announced new dates for the election for April 30 and May 10 this year after he dissolved the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR).

CM Rai also argued that the House dissolution move of PM Oli was the right decision at a time when the rival faction was preparing to create instability in the country. Going for a fresh mandate is the most democratic path, he argued and said that PM Oli should be elected again for stability, peace and prosperity in the country. “Nationality, independence, stability and good governance are the major positions of our faction.”

During his address, the chief minister took his time to blame the rival faction for attempting to create instability in the country. He also claimed that the rival faction was preparing to remove the president prime minister, governors and chief ministers of the provinces in an apparent bid to create instability and chaos in the nation.  “The faction doesn’t have any future,” he said.
