Daayitwa launches Public Administration Fellowship in 23 municipalities

KATHMANDU, April 27: Daayitwa, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, has launched an Administrative Fellowship program in 23 municipalities. The organization officially proclaimed 23 Nepal Public Administration Fellows 2022, amid a virtual event launched today. The 23 youths have been placed at 23 local bodies across six provinces to support public officials and elected representatives in formulating and implementing local policies and programs. 

The official public launch event was held in the presence of Laxman Aryal, Secretary, Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, who joined the event as the Chief Guest, along with Special Guests Radhika Aryal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gopi Khanal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration , Dr Pukar Malla, Founder and Chairperson, Daayitwa, representatives of FHI 360 and local CSO partners, as well as the representatives of municipal government partners.

Highlighting the importance of the Fellowship program, Susit Dhakal, Executive Director of Daayitwa said, “Effective implementation of programs like Daayitwa Nepal Public Administration Fellowship (DNPAF) at the local municipal level will bridge the gap between local youth and the government, thus fostering collaboration opportunities to promote inclusive municipal governance, civic engagement, post-COVID economic recovery and evidence-based policy making”. 

The 23 Fellows chosen from 160 plus competitive applicants will receive research mentorship and undertake a multi-module course on leadership offered by Dr Pukar Malla, on public administration offered by Purna Chandra Bhattarai (Former Secretary, Government of Nepal) and Dr Pramod KC (Phd. Public Administration) and on social research offered by Prajol Joshi (Research Expert). Daayitwa Nepal Public Administration Fellowship (DNPAF) 2022 is a part of the ‘Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project’ (supported by the United States Agency for International Development- USAID and implemented by FHI 360). The Fellowship program will engage the Fellows in evidence-based policymaking and inclusive municipal governance through 4-month placements.
