MAHENDRANAGAR, July 24: With the objective of easing and speeding up health services, Beldandi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur has provided cycles to health workers.

In a program conducted on Sunday, 10 women health workers of Beldandi Primary Health Centre and 39 women health workers of Rauteli Bichwa Health Post were provided with the cycles. A total amount of Rs 350,000 was taken from the Constituency Development Fund in order to buy the cycles.  Diwan Singh Bista, member of the Legislature-Parliament, distributed the cycles to the health workers.

Though the health workers had time and again been demanding cycles, their demands were unheard in the past. Lack of sufficient budget used to be the most common excuse. The health workers are elated as they will no longer have to walk for hours to provide their service in the rural areas. According to them, the cycles have motivated them to work more.

Speaking at the program, parliament member Bista said, “I am glad that I was able to bring a doctor to the Primary Health Centre at my initiative.”  He assured the locals of making further contribution for the welfare and development of the area. Many locals who attended the program stressed the need for ambulances at the health posts and health centers for quick service.
