CWIN celebrates its 30th Anniversary

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: CWIN (Child Workers in Nepal) organized an event to mark the international child rights day and celebrated it’s 30 th year in Nepal at Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikuti Mandap on Tuesday.

The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest and Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Anup Raj Sharma along with former politician and human rights activist, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Country Representative of UNICEF, Tomoo Hozumi, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Radhika Aryal, International Program Director of FORUT-Norway, Staale Stavrum, Pediatrician and Director of Kanti Children’s Hospital, Ganesh Rai, Executive Director of Shakti Milan Samaj, Goma Rai, Executive Director of CCWB, Tarak Dhital among others.

The event hosted by spokesperson of CWIN, Kumar Bhattarai proceeded with national anthem sang by a group of girls from the Pasthali Griha, which is a girl transit center operated by CWIN. Head Members of CWIN including President Gauri Pradhan and Executive Director Sumnima Tuladhar delivered welcome speech and reminisced 30 years of journey with CWIN. 

In the event children gave various performances where as the representative of CWIN Sher Bahadur and Rubina Gurung expressed their feelings being in CWIN and also talked about importance of child rights preservation. Online  Magazine on child rights, ‘Baal Sarokar Online Magazine’ ,was also launched officially in the event.

 “It was a tough and delightful journey to initiate child rights movement that hardly was a considerable issue when CWIN formed. Nevertheless, we moved forward with the belief that children were not subjected to pity but rather were an active contributor to ensure a progressive future of the country”, said Tuladhar. 

The distinguished guests were further felicitated by khada, a flower bouquet, a token of love and were allowed to share some of their words on the issue. Meanwhile, documentary about CWIN’s 30 year’s journey, child psychiatry ward in Kanti Child Hospital and story of Goma Rai were screened in the event.

 “Even though the state holds the prime responsibility to safeguard the rights of child it is more important to secure and ensure their rights primarily at home”, said chief guest Sharma. The event concluded with the entire team of CWIN singing the solidarity song.
