KATHMANDU, Nov 17: The CT scan service has been affected due to lack of X-ray films at Bir Hospital.
According to the hospital administration, CT scan services have been halted for a week due to the suppliers failing to provide X-ray films.
A CT scan requires a film of 14 inches in length and 16 inches in width. However, the hospital does not even have X-ray films in stock. More than 100 patients are being turned away daily due to unavailability of CT scan service.

“The hospital administration is to blame for not ensuring an adequate stock of essential items like X-ray films for CT Scan,” said Dr Santosh Paudel, executive director of Bir Hospital. He said that the CT Scan service has been affected as X-ray films are not provided by the Bhajuratna Medicals Company. Currently, the hospital does not have X-ray films, so the report is sent on a pen drive.
"The hospital awarded the tender to Bhajuratna Medicals Company at a lower price, but the company has been unable to provide the necessary goods and supplies," stated Dr Paudel.
According to Dr Paudel, this problem has arisen due to the Ministry of Finance's reduction of budget and acceptance of cheap tenders.
Dr Paudel said that they will bring the X-ray films immediately from other companies to ensure uninterrupted services.
