COVID infection rate remains around 20pc for three weeks

KATHMANDU, July 19: The COVID-19 infection rate in Nepal was 18.62 percent in the last 24 hours. The rate is around 18 to 22 percent on other days. According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), it has been around 18 to 20 percent or around 21 percent in Nepal for three weeks.

Of the 10,066 samples tested in the last 24 hours on Sunday, 1,875 were confirmed with COVID infection. Including additional infected people, the total number of infected people in Nepal has reached 716,049. Of them, 453,468 were infected during the second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal.

The number of deaths from COVID in Nepal has reached 9,550 including additional deaths. Of which, 6,279 died during the second wave.

MoHP Spokesperson Dr Krishna Kumar Poudel said that there is an indication that the infection is continuing to some extent as the prohibitory order has been relaxed. He said that only after a few weeks of lifting the prohibitory order will it be clear whether the infection is decreasing or increasing. "It is important to understand that the risk of infection remains the same," he said.
